I've only been playing bass seriously since the summer of 2003, but have been
playing with a band, Geek Farm, since that time. I tried guitar and bass in
the mid-80s, but could never stick with it. Maybe it's because I tried playing righty.
Playing lefty just feels "right".
I have two basses: Fender Jazz Bass and Yamaha RBX-260L. I started out with the Yamaha,
and though a nice bass, after a while I started to really want a Fender. I finally
got the Jazz Bass and it's really a lot nicer to play. Only thing nicer about the Yamaha
is that it feels like it weighs nothing! The only amp I own is a little Vox
T-15 practice amp. When playing live I've been lucky enough to find bass amps
around that I can use.
Geek Farm is based in New York City. We play mostly originals, with few covers from
the Dead Boys, Flipper, and Duran Duran. The sound is anywhere from punk to
pop, but always seems to have a nice edge.
There aren't any bassists I can really say are influences, but two I really admire
are Lee Gorman and Stuart Chatwood. Chatwood is from The Tea Party. Besides
being an excellent musician and a hell of a nice guy, he also plays lefty.
